TCHIBO COFFEE
The story of Tchibo began in 1949 with Hamburg merchant Max Herz and his business partner Carl Tchilinghiryan. Combining "Tchiling" with "Bohne" (coffee bean), they founded the legendary "Tchibo" brand, revolutionizing coffee consumption by shipping freshly roasted beans directly by mail.
1950s - THE RISE OF A HOUSEHOLD NAME
Introduced in 1954, Tchibo Gold Mocha swiftly became Germany's most consumed coffee. In 1955, the first Tchibo shop opened in Hamburg, pioneering in-store tasting. By 1958, Tchibo operated 77 stores across Germany, surpassing 400 branches by 1965.
1972 - EMERGENCE OF TCHIBO COFFEE SERVICE
Expanding beyond retail in 1972, Tchibo created Tchibo Coffee Service to deliver customized professional coffee solutions for offices, workplaces, and the hospitality sector (HoReCa). Becoming an independent entity under Tchibo Holding AG in 1994, Coffee Service now supplies thousands of corporate clients globally.
GLOBAL REACH & INNOVATION
Expanding across Central and Eastern Europe in the 1990s and acquiring the Eduscho Group in 1997, Tchibo solidified its leadership in European coffee. Today, operating in eight countries with nearly 900 stores and over 16,000 points of sale, Tchibo is a market leader across Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, and Hungary.
